There’s More to Laurene Than Photography
The photographer who sees stories in the quiet and the everyday
I have always been drawn to the simple moments most people rush past. Someone making tea in the kitchen. The familiar scent after rain. The way a home holds memory through the little things we often overlook.
I’m Laurene, a lifestyle, branding and accommodation photographer based in Toowoomba. My work sits where story, place and everyday beauty meet. Part editorial. Part comfort. Always real.
I create imagery that feels warm and lived in. Photographs that place you inside the moment rather than asking you to pose in front of it.
Before photography, there was tourism and storytelling
For more than a decade, I worked in tourism and marketing helping people discover places that meant something to them. Gardens, walking trails, historic homes and beautiful accommodation were all part of the work. It was about understanding what people notice, what they value and what stays in their memory long after the visit.
That experience guides the way I photograph today.
It taught me that people remember how a moment felt more than how it looked. So I focus on the feeling first and build the image from there with care and intention.
A few things that make me, me
I am married, have a family, and we share our home with Benson, our cat, who appointed himself ruler the moment he arrived.
I love being in the garden and watching the tiniest changes. Seedlings pushing through the soil. Veggies forming from flowers. I am always thinking about what I might grow next and where I can encourage a bit more beauty to unfold.
Travel is something that has always lived in me. I love exploring historic homes, castles, cathedrals and the ruins of past civilisations. There is a quiet fascination in standing where others once stood and imagining their world.
I don’t take life seriously all the time. I find joy outdoors, especially by the sea. Waves rolling into shore. Rainforest walks. Birdsong at the beginning of the day.
And of course, photography. I loved it from the time I was a child. My dad developed film in a darkroom beneath our family home and I would watch images appear as if by magic. That feeling never left.
These small things shape how I see the world and how I photograph it with curiosity, care and presence.

Laurene's work is beautiful. Never once did my family or I feel put in an awkward position and forced to smile. We felt comfortable, relaxed and genuinely enjoyed the experience.
