Frequently Asked Questions for your Photography Session
FAQs
What is lifestyle photography?
Lifestyle photography celebrates real living. It honours the gentle, unscripted moments that happen naturally in your home, garden or chosen location. I offer light guidance so you feel comfortable, but the focus is always on capturing you as you truly are. Nothing forced, nothing overly arranged, simply honest storytelling.
What is a Home and Garden Lifestyle session?
My inspiration comes from those beautiful country style magazines where character homes, craftsmanship and lived-in gardens take centre stage. Home and garden sessions are designed to document the story behind your space, the textures you love, the thoughtful details you have curated and the people who bring it all to life.
These sessions are longer because there is so much to explore. I can offer styling suggestions, or you are welcome to include a designer if you prefer a more polished approach.
How long do sessions go for?
Session length depends on the collection you choose.
Family and portrait sessions range from 30 to 60 minutes, while home, garden, and accommodation sessions run longer. Personal branding collections have fixed durations, which are outlined at the time of booking.
What do we wear?
Wear something that feels comfortable and reflects your personal style. For couples and families, soft complementary colours work beautifully.
Avoid bold prints, heavy patterns and noticeable logos, as they can distract from the story we are capturing.
You are welcome to send outfit ideas through before the session if you would like guidance.
What should we bring?
For families, bring anything that helps children feel relaxed and settled. A toy, book, small comfort item or a simple snack can make all the difference.
For personal branding, gather items you use every day in your work. These pieces help create imagery that feels layered, thoughtful and true to your brand.
Can we share our photos on social media?
Yes, you are welcome to share your images as much as you like. I just ask that no filters or edits be applied, as each image is carefully crafted to reflect my style.
If you choose to credit my work with @laurenebardsleyphotography, I would appreciate it.
How do we view and download our images?
You will receive a private online gallery link via email. From there, you can view, download and save your images to your devices.
How long do you keep my images?
Your gallery remains online for three months. I recommend downloading your images promptly and saving them in multiple locations for safekeeping.
Do you give direction during the session?
Yes. Most people feel unsure in front of a camera. I offer relaxed, simple direction at the beginning and whenever needed, without creating highly posed or unnatural moments. My goal is to help you feel comfortable so your images feel effortless and authentic.
What happens if the weather is unsuitable?
Cloudy weather is often beautiful for soft light. If conditions become unsafe or unsuitable, we will reschedule to the next mutually suitable date.
What happens if you are unable to attend due to sickness or injury?
Should I be unable to photograph your session due to illness or injury, I will contact you immediately. We will discuss rescheduling, and if that is not possible due to your required travel or other commitments, you will receive a full refund of all fees paid.
What if I need to reschedule?
Please let me know as soon as possible. We will move your session to the next available date. If you choose to cancel entirely, the booking fee is retained to cover the date you held.
How many photos will I receive?
Each collection includes a clear number of images, which is outlined when you book. I always deliver generously and never hold back images that deserve to be part of your story.
Do you release unedited or original images?
No. Each image is edited with care and intention, and unedited files are not provided.
How much editing do you do?
I make thoughtful adjustments to colour, light and overall tone. I do not alter permanent features or change body shape.
Minor, temporary marks such as small blemishes or bruises can be softened or removed upon request.
How long will it take to receive my photos?
Delivery times vary depending on my workload. Lifestyle portrait and home and garden galleries may take up to twelve weeks.
Branding and accommodation collections generally have a quicker turnaround, though it also depends on the current workflow.
Branding FAQ
What is personal branding photography?
Branding photography is a visual expression of your work, personality and offering. Instead of highly posed images, we create scenes that feel genuine, warm and understated. Your tools, your space and the details of how you work all help build a story that feels authentically you.
How do I prepare for my branding session?
Consider the feeling you want clients to experience when they visit your website or social pages. Gather props that represent your work, select outfits that match your brand’s tone and ensure your space is tidy and welcoming. We will talk through ideas beforehand so your session feels purposeful and well planned.
Can you help with ideas or creative direction?
Yes. I provide guidance on poses, props, scenes, colour palettes and the overall flow of your session. My aim is to create imagery that feels elevated, refined and deeply aligned with your brand.
Boutique Accommodation FAQ
What is included in your accommodation photography?
Accommodation imagery is designed to feel warm, inviting and experiential. Each collection includes a planning conversation, styling guidance, a custom shot plan, and professionally edited images tailored for your website, booking platforms and social media.
Do you photograph interiors, exteriors and gardens?
Yes. I capture interiors, entries, outdoor spaces, garden paths and the atmosphere guests notice as soon as they arrive. The aim is to create a visual story that feels welcoming and true to your property.
Do you offer seasonal updates?
Yes. Seasonal sessions refresh your imagery as gardens evolve, décor changes or new experiences are added throughout the year.
Can you help with styling before the shoot?
Absolutely. I offer practical styling suggestions to help each space feel warm, lived-in and appealing.
